EXPLANATION ABOUT ACCREDITATION- Accreditation is the act of certifying that an educational institution maintains suitable standards; the granting of approval to an institution of learning by an official review board after the school has met certain requirements. Specifically, accreditation is the review of a school’s course offerings and procedures by a group of its peers to certify that the school is meeting its own stated objectives and offerings its students the education it promises them. What ordination is to a minister; accreditation is to a school.
- The purpose of accreditation is to:
- 1. Certify that an institution has met the established standards of excellence
- 2. Assist prospective students in identifying reputable institutions, which offer degree programs that will meet their needs and goals
- 3. Allow institutions to evaluate the acceptability of transfer credits into their own curricula programs
In the Ghana, United States and other parts of the world, accreditation of Bible College and Seminaries is a voluntary process with accreditation granted by private, non-governmental agencies. Governmental agencies do not provide theological or ministry accreditation.
Government-recognized accreditation is not necessary for the religious vocations we are training people in, which include: Apostolic Ministry, Prophetic Ministry, Evangelistic Ministry, Pastor-Teacher Ministry, Worship Ministry, Deliverance Ministry, etc. People can function and hold jobs in all of these areas without government-recognized accreditation.
Individuals seeking employment in government-licensed positions such as public school teachers, state-licensed psychologists or psychiatrists, and non-church-related counselors definitely need government-recognized accredited degrees.
Generally, people working in ministry positions do not need a government-accredited degree.
